first on 13... we're tracking that storm as it heads towards the metro this morning... here's a look at the road conditions right now. as you can see, all roads are looking normal in des moines. but that is expected to change in the next hour or so. we have team coverage this morning tracking the storm... channel 13's megan salois is live outside with a look at conditions in des moines. and josh ngyen is at the airport... we'll check in with them a little later in the show. but first... the iowa caucus wrapped last night... or early this morning... in historic fashion. republican party reps reported record turnout... meanwhile democrats spent all night tracking the closest race in iowa democratic caucus history

of this morning. we're waiting on one final precinct, but as of 2:45 am... things are clear enough to in less than half a percentage point more than bernie sanders for the win... clinton with 49.9 percent. sanders with 49.5 percent. that's a difference of just five delegate votes. martin o'malley brought in one percent with just 8 votes. for the republicans, another relatively tight race. ted cruz takes the lead with 28 percent. donald trump falls 4 percent behind him with 24 percent. and marco rubio surges nearby at 23 percent. ben carson 9 percent. rand paul 5 percent. jeb bush 3 percent. carly fiorina 2 percent. john kasich 2 percent. mike huckabee 2 percent. chris christie 2 percent. rick santorum 1 percent. jim gilmore 0 percent. for two of those candidates, their race to the white house is over. low support has caused both

democrat martin o'malley to pull out of the race. huckabee won the iowa caucus in 2008 but never polled high this round. the caucus crowd filters out today as significant snow threatens the state. channel 13's josh nguyen joins us now live from the des moines international airport. josh, this is a day staff there have been nervous about for a while... des moines airport travel: a lot of planning go into today's travel. staff knew this day was going to be busy. they got in around 430. it's all hands on deck. staff are very worried about weather. flights to denver have canceled 10-12. they're expecting heavy snow, but the runway will be clear visibility is an issue. they need to see the landing environment. if it is a

democratic nominee when she first jumped into the race for president. but last night, democratic caucus-goers were split nearly equal her and bernie sanders. she is the first female winner in iowa caucus history. meanwhile ted cruz left last night with more certainty. nats cheering the republican winner celebrated with supporters at the iowa state fairgrounds last night. he credits his win in iowa to his strong ground game. he completed the 'full grassley' visiting all of iowas 99 counties finishing up in jefferson before the caucuses. cruz pulled in over 51 thousand votes last night. he says he's ready to continue the forward momentum. des moines has something else to celebrate today... it's groundhog day. our own version of punxsutawney

political history. big surprises and nail-biters packed last night...with the closest iowa democratic caucus keeping voters on the edge of their seats. here's a look at the numbers as of this morning. one final precinct has yet to report but officials say it won't make a difference. hillary clinton narrowly defeats bernie sanders with 49 point 9 percent. that's just 5 votes separating the two. as you can see, martin o'malley only received one percent support. bernie sanders overcame a huge deficit to give clinton a run for her money..
